New York is "Greening the Mansion"

NewYorkKurtzman
In June of 2007 then-First Lady Silva Wall Spitzer announced the "Greening the Mansion" program, with three stages:  1. Increase Energy Efficiency, 2. Transition to Clean, Renewble Energy, and 3.  Sustainable Practices, defined as:

  • Ecologically sound grounds maintenance
  • Local and organic food policy
  • Educational outreach
  • Promoting green industry and green jobs

Here's the story on Treehugger.

The "Greening the Mansion" has survived the transition to a new governor, and First Lady Michele Paige Paterson has pledged to continue it.  Of note, she declared the program a "model for all homeowners."  Exactly!

THE MANSION
And slightly off-topic here but very good news, the Governor's mansion has now received a LEED certification from the US Green Building Council - the first one to have achieved Gold.  Here's the story.
